Biodefense Countermeasure Development
BIODEFENSE PLANNING BY THE U.S. government emphasizes the use of medical countermeasures, including drugs and vaccines, to prepare for and respond to attacks involving biological weapons.1–4 Currently, medical countermeasures are available for only a fraction of biological threats, including those representing the highest risk, as determined by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) threat...
متن کاملNew Anthrax Countermeasure
In this report, we investigate the possibility of production of a novel new anthrax treatment with minimal side effects and virtually no possibility of bacterial resistance. The pharmaceutical is based on the innovative combination of two recently discovered components: an agent that aids the immune system in defeating an anthrax infection and the “bait” by which to attack the anthrax in vivo. ...
متن کاملZika Virus: Medical Countermeasure Development Challenges.
INTRODUCTION Reports of high rates of primary microcephaly and Guillain-Barré syndrome associated with Zika virus infection in French Polynesia and Brazil have raised concerns that the virus circulating in these regions is a rapidly developing neuropathic, teratogenic, emerging infectious public health threat. There are no licensed medical countermeasures (vaccines, therapies or preventive drug...
متن کاملA New DPA Countermeasure Based on Permutation Tables
We propose and analyse a new countermeasure against Differential Power Analysis (DPA) for the AES encryption algorithm, based on permutation tables. As opposed to existing AES countermeasures, it does not use random masking. We prove that our new countermeasure is resistant against first-order DPA; we also show that it is quite efficient in practice.

The recent vigorous transnational migration of people and materials reflecting the development of transportation facilities, changes in social structure, and war disasters has increased the global spread of emerging and re-emerging infections. Once, as the 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) virus, person-to-person transmission was achieved, the spread of pandemic cannot be contained in reality. T...
